Red Cap, Green Team: Each bottle gives a meal to someone in need

When the holiday season rolls around, I don’t just think about the authentic and nostalgic Trini dishes or the family crowding around the dining table —I think about the driving.

When I was younger, shortly after I got my driver's license I became the designated grocery shopper for our big family holiday meals. Money was tight back then, which meant we had to be extra prudent. I couldn't just walk into one supermarket and get everything. I’d start at the West Indian (Caribbean) grocer for specific herbs, the East Indian store for fresh veggies, and a general grocery store for the remaining staples.

I remember one specific trip where I had to visit three different stores just to find the perfect mango. My mom was making her famous Trini Green Mango Chutney, and she specifically needed green, unripened mangoes for their firmness and tartness. (If you’ve never had Trini Green Mango Chutney, think of the bright, crunchy tartness of an Asian Mango Salad). I finally found them, and the chutney was incredible!

Those trips taught me a lot about the value of a dollar, the effort that goes into a family meal, and how important it is to never take food for granted. It’s a huge part of the legacy behind Red Cap Hot Sauce Co., where we still believe in bringing out the best in every meal.

That’s why, as we head into this season of gathering, entertaining, and gift-giving, we are super pumped to announce the return of our One Bottle = One Meal campaign in partnership with Second Harvest.  We will be giving a meal to someone in need -- through Second Harvest -- for each bottle of Red Cap Peppa Sauce sold.

Who is Second Harvest?

Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and a global thought leader on food waste. Every year, millions of tonnes of perfectly good food goes to waste. Second Harvest steps in to rescue unsold, surplus food from thousands of businesses across the supply chain and redistributes it to non-profits in every province and territory. This prevents harmful greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere while improving access to nutrition for millions of Canadians experiencing food insecurity. They tackle both hunger and environmental issues at the exact same time.

How You Can Help Us Reach 5,000 Meals

From now through to December 31st, 2026, for every bottle of Red Cap Peppa Sauce you buy, we will donate one meal to a person in need through Second Harvest.

Last year, your support completely blew us away. Together, we provided over 2,600 meals, which diverted nearly 9,000 lbs of greenhouse gases from the landfill and saved over 1.7 million litres of water! This year, we want to double that impact. Our goal is to hit 5,000 meals.

Whether you’re stocking up for holiday entertaining, looking for the perfect Secret Santa gift for a coworker, or grabbing a stocking stuffer for dad or your brother-in-law, your purchase makes a direct impact. You can pick up our sauce at Whole Foods Market, Nature's Emporium, Goodness Me! in-store and a number of onlline outlets including Healthy Planet and Amazon.

Let’s bring people together this season and make sure everyone has a seat at the table.

P.S. Speaking of that tart, green mango my mom sent me hunting for... keep your eyes on this space later this season. We might just have a new way for you to experience it.
